Adding a property
What type of properties can I add?
You can add the following types of properties:
- Detached House
- Semi-detached House
- Terraced House
- Flat
- Flat about shop
- High-rise flat
- Maisonette
- Cottage
- Bungalow
- Pub/Hotel
- Halls of residence
- Other
My property type isn't listed. What shall I do?
If your property type is not listed, you can add it under Other for now, and contact us at support@myoldhouse.co.uk asking us to add your property type to the list. If we do add a new type, you can edit your property details afterwards.
How many properties can I add?
You can add as many properties as you have lived in.
Can I add a property I haven't lived in, for instance a site of special interest?
Not at the moment. Please only add yourself to a property that you have either lived in previously or live in now.
Can people find out where I live by searching on My Old House?
No. The only type of search possible on My Old House is a property search. You cannot search for people by name.
This is similar to the way phone directories work in the UK. You can ask for somebody if you know the address, but you cannot find the address by looking for a person.
Even if somebody finds an old address of yours, there is no way they can use that to find any other of your addresses listed on My Old House.
Is it safe to add my current address?
If you have a genuine and serious reason not to be contacted, such as domestic abuse, it may be best to refrain from adding your current address to the system. This decision is completely in your own hands.
Do I need to know the postcode to add a property?
No, you do not need to know the postcode to add a property. You may not remember the postcode of an old property and, even if you do, postcodes do sometimes change and it is possible the postcode is out-of-date.
However, if you do know the postcode of a property please use it.
